Lee to take on Sipos
13 March 2009 – By Mark Doyle
German Alex Sipos has been confirmed as Andy Lees opponent for his next outing, at The O2 in Dublin on March 21.
Rising middleweight contender Lee was only added to the undercard of Bernard Dunnes world title showdown with Ricardo Cordoba following the collapse of the Limerick man’s proposed bout with Antwun Echols in New York on March 16.
However, promoter Brian Peters has worked fast in managing to match his classy southpaw with former European title challenger Sipos, whom Lee enjoyed numerous sparring sessions with at a Wladimir Klitschko training camp in Austria of last year.
I saw some of their sessions and Sipos is a very, very good fighter but having been in there with him, Andy knows that better than anyone, Peters stated.
Its an interesting match-up becuase Sipos gave a very good account of himself when he challenged for The European title in Finland [against Amin Askiainen]. A few people at ringside believe he should have got the verdict but it went the hometown fighters way.
The bout represents Lees first since undergoing surgery on an facial injury sustained in his dramatic tenth-round stoppage win over Willie Gibbs in his native Limerick last July.
