McGregor and Mayweather set to confirm mega fight

Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather could trade leather in a billion dollar summer fight according to the Sun Newspaper.

As the curtain closes on Conor McGregor’s proposed UFC 200 rematch with Nate Diaz, a fight with the boxing legend and richest athlete in sport is a possibility according to the newspaper.

The pair have traded verbals over the last 12 months and according to a source some of the things said by the former Crumlin BC amateur and current UFC featherweight champion have promoted Mayweather to come out of retirement to fight the Dubliner.

“Floyd went mad after Conor said he would crush him and knock him out in 30 seconds, he’s obsessed with making Conor eat his words,” a source told the Sun.

“Floyd is calling the shots. It’s strictly boxing and Conor will have to lose roughly 25 pounds. It was agreed in principle on May 2, but Floyd wouldn’t reveal the identity of his opponent until last night when he told friends he’ll be fighting Conor.”

There remain skeptics aplenty re today’s news and neither team have confirmed or denied talks are underway. Most believe with a record of 49-0 Mayweather will return to try and make it 50-0, but although it would be lucrative and generate massive interest not many believe ‘Money’ will lace up his gloves to fight McGregor.

Sources tell the Sun that the bout is likely to be announced in the next few weeks, once each party agrees on the fight purse and that purse is rumoured to be €127million for the American and €9 million for the mixed martial arts specialist.
