Walsh not underestimating October 17th gateway opponent

While his opponent next month may not have the greatest of records, Dee Walsh knows that it is one of the most important fights of his life.

At the Europa Hotel on October 17th, the Irish light middleweight takes on unheralded Burundian Simone Lucas [8(1)-26(6)-4] in a six round bout, knowing that it will be his gateway to a huge future.

Promoter Mark Dunlop has massive plans for Waldo after the October 17th bout, with World titles being the eventual goal.

Having recently started working with Frank Warren, Dunlop explains that this bodes well for his stylish charge as “Frank Warren has the light-middleweight division sewn up with all the prospects and, after this October show, Dee will be in a 50-50 title fight by the end of this year or early next year.”

“His last fight was against a tough guy (Patryk Litkiewicz) and he made it look easy ā€“ heā€™s more than capable at that level and winning next month will get him a top 10 ranking.”

Lucas has scored an upset or two in his career, and Dunlop knows the dangers of underestimating journeymen opponents and reassures that “Dee will be taking Lucas very seriously, especially after seeing Dublin Prospect Anthony Fitzgerald slip up to a similar opponent at the weekend.”

The show is headlined by Lightweight Paul Hyland Jnr, along with Celtic Featherweight Champion James Tennyson, James ā€œThe Futureā€ Fryers and 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Joe ā€œThe Dragonā€ Fitzpatrick.
