Emmet Brennan has shared an exit plan.
The Dubliner revealed next year could be his last in the sport, with the former Olympian outlining plans to leave the pro stage after just three more fights.
The Inner City Dub pushed to level up and the historic Katie Taylor-Flora Pili undercard at Croke Park but suffered a stoppage defeat to Taylor Bevan on Jones Road.
The reverse left the Olympian weighing up his options. Considering he turned over late, the Olympian has never been one for the journeyman route, so a slow rebuild would never appeal to the BUI Celtic and Irish title winner.
As such, the 35-year-old has set his sights on three fights of relevant note over the next 12 months. It appears part of the deal to fight Bevan was a gaurantee of a second Matchroom date and there is always the danger another defeat would bring the curtain permanently down on his career.
“I have one year at most left in this sport,” Brennan said.
“1-3 fights left at a lower standard, one of those which will be a guarantee on a Matchroom show, then I’m out of the sport.”
Brennan’s comments come after a difficult night in front of the Hill he often frequents. Dropped and stopped by the Irish managed Welsh prospect in plenty of guts but no glory showing.
Fans assumed the bitter taste of defeat was slightly sweetened by a big purse, but Brennan has refuted online claims he banked £60,000 for the clash.
“60k would be worth getting knocked out for, sadly it was embarrassingly a lot less than that,” Brennan wrote on social media.
“Would have fought in Croke Park for free and they know that, that’s why they lowball you, if you don’t take it someone else will, it’s business, I’ve no regrets.”
