Potential is limitless says coach Zaur.

There are no limits to what Irish amateur fighters can achieve over the coming years claims respected High Performance coach Zaur Antia.

The former Georgian head coach has worked with Ireland’s boxing hopefuls since 2003 and is credited as a major part of the countries recent success.

He is currently in Baku for the European Championships and is confident the team can bring home medals from another major tournament, before going on to make a mark in Rio and the 2016 Olympics.

“At the Beijing Olympics we won three medals (a silver and two bronze) and in London we won four (a gold, silver and two bronze).

“In Rio? We will win them all. No, seriously we will look to improve some more. The improvement in Irish boxing has been very good – the skills, the strength and the strategy of the fighters and the technique which is the most important thing.

“I have taken the Irish boxers to places like Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia and this has been a big thing for them. We have a young team and there is no limit to what they can achieve.”
