IRISH lightweight Sean McComb is going for European Championship gold.

Indeed the Belfast fighter has indicated that he will have failed if he does not reach the top of the podium if he doesn’t win the inaugural event and become the first ever European Championship gold medal winner..

If actions speak louder than words McComb certainly sent a signal of intent with a brilliant display against Belarus’s Tymur Beliak this morning.

“I want to win a gold medal. I’ll be disappointed with anything else, that’s all I’m focused on,” McComb told reporters.

“It’s a very tough competition, all the best boxers in Europe are here, including myself.”

The Senior champion will fight against Italian Donato Cosenza on Saturday.
