Plenty of Irish interest in Mexico this month

While boxing in the UK and Ireland is quite slow during January, the same can’t be said of North America, and there will be Irish interest this month as far afield as Mexico.

On Friday January 27th, Assassin Boxing will co-promote a show in the upmarket Central Mexican city of Aguascalientes.

The card will be co-headlined by the beginning of Cork-based Alexei Collado‘s [19(17)-2(1)] time with the British promoter, and the Cuban featherweight is set to fight for a rankings title from one of the four major organisations.

Irish super middleweight champion JJ McDonagh [14(7)-3(1)] will also feature in what will be his first fight since his stunning first-round knockout of Matchroom starlet Jake Ball back in November. The Mullingar southpaw had stepped up to light heavy for the fight with Ball, but intends to move back down to 168lbs in 2017 and begin chasing titles.

Finally, the card also sees the debut of ‘The Slovak Rebel’ Vladimir Belujsky. The Mitchelstown middleweight has impressed in preparations ahead of his debut, and Assassin have high hopes for the Bratislava-born boxer. The debut show in Mexico is intended to be the first of many in early 2017 that will see the Cork boxer quickly build his record.

Also appearing on the bill will be Ben Jones, Nicky Jenman, Jay Morris, and Josh Douglas.
