John Joe Nevin scores impressive New York knockout

John Joe Nevin chalked up his fifth win as many outings last night in New York. Fighting at the Aviator Sports Centre in Brooklyn, the Westmeath southpaw stopped Jose Guzman in the third of six scheduled rounds.

The 2012 Olympic silver medalist started fast, flooring the Puerto Rican in the opening stanza,. Nevinproceeded to score countless heavy shots before Guzman’s corner halted the bout halfway into the third round.

With the victory on the Top Rank card, Nevin extended his unbeaten record to 5(4)-0, while journeyman Guzman fell to 6(0)-12(5)-1.

The Mullingar Shuffler will be hoping to be out again soon, and has a date penciled in for October 30th in Philadelphia, as he seeks to quickly build his record under new co-manager Cameron Dunkin – who is guiding the Irish star alongside Tom Moran of Green Blood Boxing.
