Hatton: I am not taking sides but I think Hearn’s offer is fantastic

BRITISH fight legend Ricky Hatton believes Eddie Hearn has made a ‘fantastic’ to Cyclone Promotions and Carl Frampton to fight Scott Quigg this Summer.

The Matchroom boss’ public £1.5 million offer to ‘The Jackal’ was labelled a publicity stunt by some, but Hatton, who looks after Irish trio Sonny, Paulie and Anto Upton, believes it is a fair offer. Indeed the former World champ, who Frampton’s ticket selling prowess has been compared to, suggests Cyclone need to explain why the purse offer and 60/40 to the victor split has been rebuffed.

In fairness Team Cyclone have stressed the remain open to negotiating and Frampton revealed as the big ticket seller, bigger draw and legitimate World champion he deserves the 60 percent regardless of the outcome, claiming it is a matter of principle.

Regardless from a neutral stand point Hatton hopes the massive bout is made.

“A big offer has been made of £1.5 million to Carl Frampton and that is a fantastic purse, and Eddie Hearn has also given them the option of a 60/40 co-promotion split,” Hatton said.

“I ain’t picking sides because I like Eddie and Matchroom, just as I like the McGuigans and Scott Quigg. I also like Carl Frampton, I have loads of respect for him – but I am from Manchester, so I am in Quigg’s corner.

“And to be honest I have watched the interviews and I can’t see much wrong with what Eddie has said – if the truth be known.

“And I am not picking Eddie ahead of Frampton, or anything like that, but Eddie puts a good case forward for why this fight is not happening and they have now got to come and answer why it is not happening.”
