Let’s See What Happens’ – Cairns Eyes Future Showdown with Former Amateur Rival Adam Azim
Steven Cairns has his sights set on a big pro clash with former amateur rival Adam Azim.
The Cork prospect and the former European champion have history and Cairns hopes they have a future.
The Queensberry boxer is aware the former European champion is higher up the career ladder than him at present, but he would welcome a showdown with the star English name when he climbs a bit higher.
“I think that’s a great fight for the future. When we fought in the amateurs, it was Ireland vs England – and I beat him,” he says of St. Brigid’s Boxing Club in Edenderry hosted clash when the pair were 16.
“I remember there were a lot of English dads and coaches saying they’d never seen anyone [perform like that against] Adam Azim before.
“He’s a nice kid, but let’s see what happens in the future,” he adds when speaking to Boxing News.

Cairns isn’t the only Irish fighter to be linked to the Shane McGuigan-trained Slough native. Sean McComb recently revealed he had agreed to share the ring with Boxxer’s star man while Pierce O’Leary is a name that often appears beside the Brits.
‘The Irish Takeover’ isn’t quite at the level of McComb or O’Leary as of yet, but he is making good strides and the excitement around him was increased by his victory over Senan Kelly earlier this month.
