Lee to face Duddy?
9 January 2011 – Jonny Stapleton
John Duddy versus Andy Lee is once more a possibility.
The sensational all Ireland clash between the exciting middleweights could kick of what will prove a sensational St Patricks week for Irish boxing.
Promoter Lou DiBella is keen to put what would prove the greatest Irish dust up in recent history on the under-card of Sergio Martinezs middleweight world title defence against Serhiy Dzinziruk in in Foxwoods Casino just seven days before Willie Casey and Brian Magee both challenge for world title honours.
Mirror Sport has been told the talks re the mouth watering fight between the American based pair have been reignited with both camps, both fighters and Debilla all eager to get the 160 pound Irish brawl made for March 12.
However, no deal has been signed as of yet and it is important to remember that the on off clash between the two former Irish amateur pugilists has been touted to no avail on numerous occasions.
Lee (24-1), who will appear on the Martinez/ Dzinziruk card regardless, will be aggrieved to hear that the Ukrainian junior middleweight WBO champ piped him in the race to trade leather with the Martinez.
The former Olympian was close to making it three Irish titles tilts in a week, but TV Network HBO gave the Limerick southpaw a big thumbs down when he was suggested as an opponent for the Argentine.
However, a bout with Derry Destroyer Duddy (29-2), who lost to Julio Cesar Chavez junior in his last outing, will help make up for the disappointment for both Lee and Irish fight fans.
Victory for Limericks Lee in the cross roads fight will give him the Stateside recognition he craves and will boost both his ranking and profile. While a win for the all action Duddy could put him pack on the World title trail.
