1995: Former heavyweight King Lennox Lewis came to town, fighting at the Point Depot in Dublin. ‘The Lion’ had lost his WBC belt the previous year to Oliver McCall and was in a process of rebuilding. The London-Canadian took on Justin Fortune that night, scoring a fourth round stoppage. Lewis would eventually reclaim his belt from McCall in 1997.

1987: Light middleweight Denis Galvin guaranteed himself a bronze medal at the World Junior (under 18s) Championships in Havana, Cuba. The Moate man scored a second round stoppage over Bulgarian Boris Boyadzhiev took book his place in the semis. Here he was stopped in the first by home favourite William Silva.
