Lee places Frampton among all time Irish sporting legends

WBO middleweight Champion of the World paid the ultimate tribute to Ireland’s other World champion during the week.

The Limerick man was as per usual impressive as he represented boxing on the national air waves as a guest on Second Captains live, playing his part in another impressive interview.

Just days after further raising his profile World wide by drawing with Peter Quillin in an enthralling bout watched by 2.9 million people Stateside, Lee wasn’t afraid to share the lime light with his fellow champion of the World.

The World champion was handed the opportunity to have his say on Second Captains famous Good Wall, a Wall were sport star guests place their personal Irish sporting greats.

Brian O’Driscoll currently holds top spot, whist AP McCoy, Katie Taylor, Paul McGrath, Paul O’Connell, Henry Shefflin and others are also present. Lee surprised a few by including IBF super-bantamweight champion boxer Carl Frampton, putting him place of Kerry legend Maurice Fitzgerald.

Explaining his choice the middleweight, who hopes to defend his title in Thomond Park this Summer said.

“There are a lot of great boxers I could chose and one of my personal favourites Sonya O’Sullivan, I know she was up there before and I would love to put her up there again, but I have gone with someone who is current, who is an active sports person and someone I think is already a legend and who has a big future and will go on to be even more of a legend and that’s Carl Frampton.”
