Katelynn Phelan to take on undefeated German starlet

Katelynn Phelan [3(0)-0] will next month get on a plane in search of glory as she takes major away day fight.

It has been confirmed this morning that the Kildare light welterweight will face on German-Ukrainian starlet Jessica Schadko [8(2)-0] on Saturday September 5th in the southern German city of Donauwoerth.

The welterweight fight, which will take place outdoors, will be contested over eight two-minute rounds. Phelan has never been scheduled beyond four while 19-year-old Schadko has previously gone 10.

Schadko had been due to face Serv Valentina Keri but Phelan has now stepped up to the plate for a chance to defeat a major rising name and claim belts.

The lightly-regarded WBF and WIBA ‘world’ crowns will be on the line for 20-year-old Phelan who is going into the lions’ den. Like next month’s clash, the majority of Schadko’s fights have taken place in her home town of Donauwoerth and management CPI have built the prospect quickly.

Phelan will be looking to derail this.

Phelan’s management, Boxing Ireland Promotions, said that “Katelynn has been working tirelessly with coach Niall Barrett throughout the lockdown and this work has paid off with a massive opportunity to enter the world rankings.”
