Headline Act – Katelynn to top Celtic Clash 11 card

World Youth Champion Katelynn Phelan [4(1)-0] will return to the ring as a bill topper in her own right.

Phelan will become the first female to top a Celtic Clash card as she headlines the eleventh installment of of the popular series.

Boxing Ireland have confirmed the exciting Kildare prospect will return on their first show in Spain.

The 20-year-old will trade leather against a yet to be confirmed opponent at the Pabellón Príncipe de Asturias, Murcia on January 23.

It’s reward for Phelan’s sensational victory over previously undefeated and hyped prospect Jessica Schadko in Germany in October.

The victory and the world youth title leaves the young fighter in a very strong position going into 2021 and a win early next year can only help.

It remains to be seen if it’s another step up for Phelan or more of a keep busy affair.

The Spanish excursion was initially scheduled for December 20 but has been pushed back into the New Year.

While all parties are hopeful for boxing to return to Dublin in early 2021, a brief New Year excursion to the Costa Cálida will keep a large chunk of the team active and regular trips could become a part of the schedule.

The card, which is being run in association with respected matchmaker Ricky Pow, will play out in front of a limited number of supporters engaging in social distancing protocols and the show will be supplemented by local amateurs.

In what is good news for small hall fans, the show in its entirety will be professionally streamed via fite.tv, with further details to be confirmed soon.

Phelan is the first and only fighter confirmed for the new date, but Aaron Gethins, Dominic Donegan and Owen O’Neill were all scheduled to fight on December 20 – as a result they will be favourites to appear on January 23.
