Brilliant Video- the unveiling of the Rinty Monaghan statue
The unveiling of the Rinty Monaghan statue in Belfast this year was one of the biggest occasions in Belfast Boxing.
The three-metre high sculpture of ‘Ireland’s most famous boxer’ was erected at Cathedral Gardens, better known locally as Buoy Park, in honour of the ring legend.
The statue unveiling drew support from stars of boxing past and present as they looked to pay homage to the fighter who became World champion in October 1947 and retired in 1950 with a trophy cabinet bulging with British, European, Commonwealth and World crowns.
Documentary maker Danny Mills filmed the event and will release a film of the day. He sent Irish-boxing.com the following video a short snippet of whats to come.
