Double History- Christina Desmond Set for Historic European Title Shot After Making Irish Title History

Not quite history repeating itself, but Christina Desmond is already set for another historic title night.

The Cork boxer became the first-ever female Irish professional champion when she defeated Louise Creaven last weekend.

Desmond defeated the Galway native over 10 rounds to win the historic strap and etch her name into the history books.

The engraving pen will have to be out again, as the Macroon graduate goes straight into another landmark fight.

The 30-year-old Kevin Crowley managed boxer has secured a shot at the European title.

Desmond, a European Championship medal winner as an amateur, will fight for the vacant light welterweight version of the famous blue strap on October 24.

The Rebel county boxer will have to win in the Lions Den if she is to become Ireland’s first-ever female European Champion and the country’s seventeenth blue strap holder overall.

She trades leather with Clara Lopez in Spain for a strap that was once held by Katie Taylor’s farewell foe Flora Pili. Although, La Inflexible’s record doesn’t make for scary reading and Desmond’s amateur pedigree is by the better fo the two.
