John Waldron claims he will prove his record makes for misleading reading when he returns to the ring in Belfast on Saturday night.

Waldron ends a two and a half year sabbatical when he fights Joe Hillerby on a Malta Boxing Commission and looks to win his first fight since 2012.

Some suggest the Mayo puncher should have remained retired, but he is adamant he is better than his record suggests and is confident he can role back the years and re produce his Irish title winning form.

“I’ll win this fight and take any other opportunities that come my way. I’m in this sport because I love boxing and hope to win titles. I’m better then my record suggests I just have it prove it now.”

“I’m very excited to be back in action. I love the buzz and hope to get back on winning track I’m being trained by Mansur Magomadov from Chechnya. He is really putting me through my paces. Fitness shouldn’t be a problem if it is we’re doing something wrong.”

Waldron knows he goes into his clash with Joe Hillerby as an underdog, but he has upset previous and is confident he can register victory and resurrect his career.

“I’m probably underdog but I’ve nothing to lose. I went to Limerick and beat Jamie Power for title and I fancy picking up another title at different weight. This is not gonna be an easy fight, but I’m ready to stand and fight it out or hit move we’ve all angles covered and we see how it goes. I’m confident of the win and when I’m in form I’ll give anyone a hard fight. That’ what I plan to give Joe Hillerby.”
