VOTE: The 2022 Irish-Boxing Awards – Pro Debut of the Year
It’s time to get started on the nominations for the 2022 Irish-Boxing.com Awards as we celebrate the great and the good in this sport.
Over the next five days we will be releasing the 10 categories up for decision.
Starting us off is Pro Debut of the Year – because where else is better to begin than a fighter’s first fight?
A raft of Irish boxers debuted this year and we have narrowed it down to our TOP FIVE.
Votes are limited to ONE per IP address.
The Dublin light middleweight gave us exactly what we expected when he debuted in Belfast in June – entertainment. Tailor-made for the pros, O’Sullivan outgunned Luke Middleton at the Europa Hotel and built on this with another win in November.
The Belfast super bantam waited a long time to debut and eventually got his chance in Oldham in October. He didn’t have it easy, facing an in-form Steven Maguire and without coach Dee Walsh in the corner, but Hughes pulled off the win to make a perfect start in the pros.
If his November scrap with Veselin Vasilev is anything to go by, Cathal Crowley is going to be in fun fights. The Cork light heavy hunted down his man and got the finish in the third round at the National Stadium.
The Shannon kickboxing convert was thrown straight in at the deep end in November when he was matched with Nicaraguan dangerman Brayan Mairena in Belfast. Ryan rose to the challenge in a fun war and we can’t wait to see him in domestic fights at light welterweight.
Following the roller-coaster that was his proposed debut in Cork, the Leeside light heavy finally got going in December in South Dakota. It was a war with Jiri Korda but Hyde came through the fire to finish his man in the third.
