Steven Ward – “It’s going to be very different this time”

Steven Ward [1(0)-0] fights for the second time as a professional this weeked in a slightly more reserved setting than the first time he stepped in the ring.

Ward debuted at the Titanic Exhibition Centre on the Belfast Boxnation show in front of a huge crowd, but when he takes to the ring on Saturday it will be in the swanky Hilton Hotel in Coventry

One of the biggest cheers of the night earlier this month was for the debut of ‘The Quiet Man,’ and Ward recalled that his pro bow “was unbelievable, definitely the highlight of my career so far. Just everyone that came to support me, I couldn’t believe it – and the noise they made!”

“It’s going to be very different this time with a smaller venue, but I can’t see it affecting my performance, I’m just looking forward to getting in there now.”

The dedicated 26 year old aims to improve on his debut showing, a four rounds points win over the negative Merdjidin Yuseinov, and he explained how “I’m still learning so much from the whole pro game, there is loads to learn, but all I’m really focusing on is being relaxed and comfortable in the ring so everything looks and feels good.”

While his opponent is still not locked in, strong Lithuanian Remigijus Ziausys is being lined up, a notably good Baltic journeyman and the sort of opponent that allows you to look good, by virtue of coming forward with a quite orthodox style. Ward however is prepared for whatever test is given to him and described how “there has been a few different opponents bouncing about, but I know I feel good and been working on loads in the gym again with Oliver [Harrison, coach], so if it’s someone that comes forward or on the back foot, I plan to be able to step up and deal with it.”
