Team Frampton have been given the inside track on Leo Santa Cruz by a mystery sparring partner.
The McGuigan’s mentor Barry and coach Shane have ensured ‘The Jackal’ has been preparing for the massive WBA featherweight World title fight by sharing rounds with a Santa Cruz pre-camp regular.
The unnamed fighter has been used as a sparring partner for the Mexican three weight World champion for five camps, but has been working with Ireland’s first unified World champ ahead of his bid to become Ireland’s second ever two weight World titlist.
Barry McGuigan suggests the move not provided the Belfast fighter with good sparring, but with valuable insight too.
“We have been working very hard and have been using a guy who was in a camp with Santa Cruz for five different camps,” McGuigan told Steve Brenner.“This kid is really, really brilliant and he is a 130lb boxer, top five in Europe, fantastic talent and our preparation has been unbelievable.”
“He’s been with Santa Cruz for five camps. So yeah, we are know about him.”
