Ryan Burnett shows off new nickname with hilarious photo

It looks like after 17 fights, 17 wins, and a world title, Belfast’s Ryan Burnett finally has a boxing nickname.

The talented bantamweight, who won the IBF crown on Saturday against Lee Haskins, has not had a ‘ring name’ as he rose through the ranks, with ‘The Piranha’ – as suggested by The Irish Sun’s Kevin Byrne – being perhaps the closest.

However a war wound sustained on Saturday night against the wily Lee Haskins seems to have given Burnett an idea.

The Antrim Road 25 year old suffered a long gash on his forehead in the second round – a cut which Ian Johnson in the corner did well to keep under control for the remaining ten rounds.

Two days on from the fight, Burnett is left with a lovely red belt, a couple of dozen stitches, and seemingly a new nickname.

Tonight the Irishman posted the following photo on social media noting his similarity to Harry Potter.

‘The Wizard’ also happens to be the nickname of Dublin light welter Jake Hanney [5(4)-1(1)], but we’re sure he wont mind.
