Repeat, revenge and a result to forget: Sheridan ready to rewrite the record

It will be a case of repeat AND revenge, predicts Karl Sheridan as he goes into a must-win rematch at the National Stadium tonight.

The Dubliner suffered a shock first defeat to Jorge Luis Huerta Balleza at the same venue in May and looks to erase the memory of the result, the post-fight blues and the Mexican himself on the Judgement Day card.

Although he will make some changes go into what promises to be a tense rematch, the popular Crumlin native believes the same level of performance would be enough to ensure a different result.

Like his promoter Jay Byrne, Sheridan feels he did enough to win the first meeting.

However, the record books show he suffered a first career defeat, and as such, he is looking to settle the score and put the result in just his career bout firmly behind him.

“There would always be, no matter how far I went in the career, people saying, ‘Ah, but this fellow beat him,’” Sheridan when speaking to Irish-boxing.com.

“This is just to help that out of my mind.”

The defeat came in Sheridan’s second professional fight and came as a major surprise.

“It was a crazy shock,” he admitted.

“I’ve watched the fight back a few times and the first three rounds I definitely won, definitely 100%. Fourth round probably the only one in question.”

While what he did last time would be enough to win in the JB Promotions’ man has looked to make improvements and may look to change it up style-wise.

“I’ve just been working on footwork, jab, keeping it long, putting my power in the end of my punches, all that.”
