I am ready to prove the rumours are true- says McCarthy
Tommy McCarthy is ready to make straight talkers of the boxing gossip-mongers in Glasgow tomorrow night.
The Belfast cruiserweight has those in the fight know whispering about his potential over the last two years, but is ready to get people screaming about him with victory on the Sky Sports ‘History Man’ card.
“I have been to sparring camps in England and Europe and I have got fantastic feedback from all of those spars.
“People are talking about me and the ability I have, but it is alright them talking. It is up to me to prove that the rumours are true by winning in Glasgow on Saturday night,” he said.
McCarthy already holds a victory over Courtney Fry so has a domestic scalp on his record, but in just his eight fight has a chance to beat a known fighter live on TV and take a giant stride toward a British title shot in the process.
John Lewis Dickinson, who won the British title outright as well as winning Prizefighter, mans the opposite corner and while McCarthy knows he faces a live and experienced operator he is confident of victory.
“He is a good fighter and he has had a successful career. He is a Lonsdale belt holder and he won Prizefighter.
“Dickinson is a tough lad but I just believe I am better but it is up to me to deliver.
“If I win this fight it will open up doors to title fights and that is what I want as I have been a professional now for two years.”
