Prince Naz: Carl Frampton can be a featherweight king
Prince Naseem Hamed believes Carl Frampton will handle the big fight New York pressure and the step up to featherweight when he fights Leo Santa Cruz on July 30.
Former WBO and IBF featherweight World champion ‘Naz’ has always been vocal in his admiration of the ‘The Jackal,’ and he thinks the Belfast fighter has what it takes to deliver on the biggest of stages this Summer.
‘Naz’ didn’t quite conquer America, but did fight Stateside on big TV shows. His first taste of an American ring was in New York when he fought and stopped Kevin Kelley, showed no doubt the Brendan Ingle-trained showman loved the spotlight and he is confident Frampton won’t be overawed.
“Carl is a great fighter and I knew he would have too much for Scott Quigg in his last fight,” Hamed told Sky Sports News.
“I remember when I fought against Kevin Kelley at Madison Square Garden. I was just a kid from Sheffield and it was amazing to see my name up in lights like that. “I think Carl is more than capable of handling the occasion and even though he is stepping up from super-bantamweight to featherweight I have every confidence he can get the job done against Santa Cruz.”
