Ireland begin Pavlyukov Memorial in Russia with a win and a loss
Ireland began their campaign this afternoon at the Pavlyukov Youth Memorial in Anapa, Russia with a win and a loss.
World Youth bronze medallist Gabriel Dossen advanced to the last-eight of the, Russia this morning after a hard-earned victory over a home favourite.
The Olympic BC welter beat Russia’s European 2016 Junior champion Ivan Stupen on a 3-2 split decision at the Black Sea Port to join Cork duo Eamer Coughlan Tommy Hyde in the quarter-finals.
The Galway boxer will now fight for bronze on Friday (St Patrick’s Day).
There was disappointment for Jason Harty however, with the Limerick boxer being beaten on a 28:29 x5 unanimous decision by Aldivr Turnsinay of Kazakhstan in a razor-close bout, a verdict which left the Rathkeale man speechless.
Aaron McKenna and Paddy Donovan are in Last 16 action for Ireland tomorrow.
