Oscar De La Hoya confirms Aaron McKenna’s return

Aaron McKenna [11(7)-0] will look to make it the perfect dozen when he returns to the ring next month.

‘The Silencer’ of former Denis Hogan and Spike O’Sullivan opponent Jaime Munguia’s clash against Poland’s Maciej Sulecki.

McKenna will fight on the Facebook part of the DAZN broadcast card against a yet to be confirmed opponent at The University of Texas at El Paso’s Don Haskins Center on June 19.

McKenna, whose brother, Stevie, appears on a Hennessy Promotions show in Coventry on May 22, saw his promoter confirm the news this afternoon.

The bout will be the exciting Monaghan prospect’s first of 2021, his first since becoming the first man to stop Jordan Grannum last December, and comes after an April date fell through.

Considering he was a five-fight-a-year man, COVID hit McKenna more than most. He was robbed of serious momentum and only got out once last year.

The ambitious and entertaining 21-year-old is always in the gym and his sparring resume reads like a who’s who of modern boxing, so he may not require a ring rust-freeing bout.

If he is to progress rapidly toward world level the talent will be looking for some named opponents and precieved tests this year.
