Another stoppage win – Ormond puts in Monstrous performance in Melrose

Dubliner Stephen Ormond had his second stateside win in three weeks tonight in Melrose, Massachusetts. Fighting on the Murphy’s Boxing-promoted ‘Monster Brawl,’ the Clondalkin man stopped Puerton Rico’s Orlando Vazquez in the fourth of a scheduled eight rounds.

It was calculated start by Ormond at the Memorial Hall, stalking his Caribbean opponent around the ring and landing some flurries in final minute of the round.

The second stanza saw the Irishman start to unleash his trademark machine gun left-hook to the body, before hurting Vazquez late in the round when he moved upstairs.

The one-way traffic continued in the third with Ormond showing a good range of punches and landing at will.

Vazquez was ready to go by the fourth round and, after two minutes of further domination, ‘The Rock’ finally put his man down with a left hook-short right combo. The Puerto Rican gamely beat the count but the fight was waved off seconds later following another two big left hooks from Ormond.

With the impressive victory Ormond’s record now reads [20(11)-2(0)], while Vazquez falls to [18(12)-7(5)-1].

His apprenticeship now served in America, Ormond will be targeting title shots in the very near future at either lightweight or light welterweight.
