WINDSOR WEIGH-IN: Naked Carl Frampton – Deontay Wilder invasion – Steve Collins misses weight

Carl Frampton had to strip naked but made the weight for his Windsor Park clash tomorrow night.

The Tiger’s Bay featherweight headlines at the Belfast football stadium and, as his WBO interim belt is on the line, was required to make the championship weight.

This did not initially occur but, after ditching his boxer shorts, came in at the 126lbs featherweight limit exactly. Moments earlier, Aussie challenger Luke Jackson had tipped the scales at a very light 124.7lbs.

The pair, who had traded words in the build-up, were cordial in the face-off, sharing a hug and a handshake afterwards.

Following the main event weigh-in it was time for Paddy Barnes who challenges for the WBC flyweight title in just his sixth fight. The double Olympic bronze medallist came in bang on the championship limit of 112lbs. Champion Cristofer Rosales followed this up by coming in at 111.7lbs and the pair would then share a frosty face off.

Following this it was time for silly season as the Tyson Fury roadshow rolled in. The former unified heavyweight champion’s second comeback opponent, Franceso Pianeta, weighed in at 254.7lbs before Fury himself registered 258lbs – a full 18lbs lower than for his comeback bout in June.

Just after Fury weighed in there was an unmerciful cry of ‘BOMB SQUAD’ as WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder stormed the event and was confronted by Fury’s eccentric father, John, as they roared expletives at each other.

After all that drama came the only all-Irish bout of the card and there was drama of a different sort – with Steve Collins Jr missing weight for his BUI Celtic light heavyweight clash with Steven Ward. Dubliner Collins came in 0.8lbs over the limit at 175.8lbs and has an hour to reweigh. There were no such problems for Ward who tipped the scales at 174.4 before sharing a surprisingly steely staredown with Collins.

UPDATE: Collins would make weight one hour later and the title will be on the line.
