WILLIE MCLAUGHLIN scooped the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Boxer of the Week award after claiming his third victory on-the-trot for Milano Thunder versus the Bangkok Elephants in Milan last night.

McLaughlin, from the Illies GG club in Donegal, dropped Anong Artwichian of the Elephants mid-way through the third and the ref stopped the fight after the Thai middleweight took a barrage of unanswered punches seconds after he got off the floor.

Thunder won the five-bout match to ensure qualification for the quarter-final play-offs.

Last night’s victory lifts McLaughlin to number four spot in the WSB Individual rankings.

David Oliver Joyce’s Istanbul and Ken Egan’s and Con Sheehan’s Leipzig Leopards were both beaten at home tonight.

Neither Joyce, Egan or Sheehan were in action for their respective sides.

The top four sides in the two groups qualify for the last-eight.

William McLaughlin has had an impressive debut season for the Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder team. The 26-year-old orthodox fighter had the spectators at the Mediolanum Forum up on the feet as he smartly outmanoeuvred Anong Artwichian of the Bangkok Elephants before battering him with a flurry of punches in the third round to record an impressive TKO victory.

Clever and uncompromising, this Irish Middleweight is now undefeated in his first three matches for the Italian outfit and there will plenty more to come from him in the knock-out stages.
