McGuigan: Gallagher rejected my offer of a truce

Shane McGuigan has revealed that Joe Gallagher shunned his peace offering following Carl Frampton’s win over Scott Quigg.

McGuigan and Gallagher had clashed repeatedly in the lead up to the PPV bout, with Sligo-Manchester trainer Gallagher questioning his opposite number’s credentials.

The feud came to a head at Friday’s weigh-in with the two engaging in a shoving match.

However come fight night it was the young pup who came out victorious over the old dog in the battle of the corner men, and McGuigan looked to end the feud in the immediate aftermath of the bout at the Manchester Arena.

Speaking to IFL TV, the former Irish U21 and Ulster champ revealed that “I tried to [clear the air], but it wasn’t recieved.”

It would be easy to point the finger at the abrasive Gallagher, however the Bolton-based coach should perhaps be given the benefit of the doubt – considering that he was distraught following his man’s loss – and that he is willing to bury the hatchet with McGuigan.
