MACKLIN: Lee fight could still happen
THE much talked about all Irish middleweight fight between Matthew Macklin and Andy Lee could still happens claims ‘Mack The Knife’ himself.
Irish fight fans felt the Lee v Macklin ship had sailed after the former three time World title challenger lost in Dublin in November and Limerick’s Lee went on to win the WBO World title in December.
It couldn’t have be a more contrasting end to 2014 for the middleweight duo, most expecting Macklin to retire, while the World lay at Team Lee’s feet.
However, Macklin revealed this week that his 3 Arena Jorge Sebastian Heiland knock out reverse won’t be his boxing farewell. The former British, Irish and European champ returns to the ring on May 28th in Birmingham and believes a massive Tipperary versus Limerick clash with Lee can still be made.
“I think that could happen,” he said. “As long as I come back and I feel good and win in May and Andy can, please God, win his next one then I think that’s a huge fight. Certainly the biggest fight in Ireland that I can remember with two Irish fighters and its still could happen.”
