Mac Man Lindsay is back

By Jonny Stapleton

THE honeymoon and the honeymoon period is over. Martin Lindsay is back and means boxing business.

The recently married star makes his eagerly awaited return to ring action in the Kings Hall on November 12 on the undercard of the Martin Rogan Matt Skelton’s rematch and plans to dust of the cobwebs accumulated over 11 months off before trying to snare a major title.

Lindsay, whose last fight was a December British title reverse to John Simpson in Belfast, believes if given enough preparation time he could compete at European and British title level as it is.

However he stressed a six round warm up fight will stand him in good stead as he prepares an assault on domestic and European honours next year.

“It has just been under a year since I last fought so I am looking forward to it. Hopefully I can get back in and push for another title. I am only back from my honeymoon so it won’t be a major battle. It is a six round clash that will help me get back into the rhythm of things. In saying that if I had eight weeks to prepare I would take a title fight now. I just don’t have enough lead in time into this one. I am leaving my opponent with the matchmaker,” Lindsay told Mirror Sport.

The University Graduate and fans favourite has endured a very frustrating sabbatical since Simpson played the Grinch and ruined his Christmas last year.

However, while he has been inactive his ratings in key governing bodies haven’t moved dramatically either.

As a result the Belfast fighter is still in title contention and is confident he can get a title tilt soon.

“My rankings are still good. I am number 6 in the EBU and I am ready for any of the champions. I would fight for the European, British or Commonwealth titles,” Lindsay who is a free promotional agent added.

“Selby and John Simspons have to fight for the British title soon. I would love the winner of that. If they don’t face me in a voluntary I will have to work my way to mandatory challenger. It is a similar scenario with European title. The champion Alexander Miskirtchian has to face a mandatory next but hopefully I can secure a fight with him after. I am ready for any of these fighters.”
