Elite Irish team to fight Finland in Offaly tonight

The Irish Women’s Elite squad will face Finland at the St Brigids BC in Edenderry, Offaly tonight.

Michaela Walsh and Joanne Lambe, who both represented Ireland at the 2014 AIBA World Elite Championships in Korea, have been named on the Irish squad for the first of two Elite internationals with the Finns this weekend.

Both nations meet again on Saturday evening at the Ballina BC.

Team Finland, which includes Mira Potkonen, who was beaten by Katie Taylor in the last 16 of last year’s AIBA World Elite Championships, arrived in Ireland yesterday and weighed-in in Edenderry this morning.

Potkonen is slated to go head-to-head with Cheyanne O’Neill this evening.

The line up for Saturday’s international will be confirmed shortly.
