Edwards pulls out of British Title eliminator with Conlan

Paul Edwatrds has pulled out of his British Title eliminator with rising Irish star Jamie Conlan.

The Liverpool fighter may not be landing any punches on the Belfast star inside the ring on January 21, but he landed a significant blow to Conlan with his withdrawal.

The winner of the Liverpool hosted 10 rounder would have been given a shot at British Champion Chris Edwards, but namesake Paul Edwards decision not fight confuses the issue.

Edwards withdrawal isn’t injury promoted, rather the fighter, whose backyard Conlan was willing to fight in, claims he needs more time with his new trainer Franny Smith.

Both fighters will still compete on the January 21 card but in separate six round bouts.

“I’ve been training with Franny for about three or four weeks now and would’ve liked longer. I’m still fighting on the January 21 bill but now not against Jamie Conlan.

“I’m now only fighting a six rounder because Franny wanted longer with me before we did a 10 round fight.”
