Collins: Buglioni is ready – even Spike can’t knock him down!
London-born, Dublin-trained super middleweight Frank Buglioni challenges for Fedor Chudinov’s WBA title tomorrow, and coach Paschal Collins feels that ‘The Wise Guy’s’ smart preparations have left him in prime position to spring an upset.
Indeed, such is the quality of the 26 year old’s training, Collins believes that even the Englishman’s sparring partners would beat the Russian champ.
Explaining this claim to irish-boxing.com, Collins elaborated that “I remember years ago someone said in the build up to a fight they had with Barry McGuigan that they were sparring fighters that would beat Barry.”
“Well I think that is the case for Frank – he has been in with ‘Spike’ and ‘Spike’ would beat Chudinov.”
The 44 year old, who’s looking to mastermind his first world title victory, also revealed how Buglioni’s sparring with the freakishly hard-hitting Corkonian went. Collins detailed that “they have been sparring since Frank came to the gym, but this time around Spike was promised a €500 bonus if he put Frank down.”
“Spike likes a few quid so he certainly went for it.”
“They had some great spars and Spike couldn’t put him down.”
Collins is certainly predicting victory for his charge tomorrow at the SSE Wembley Arena, reasoning that “others might be, but I won’t be shocked if Frank wins on Saturday.”
“Then you’re a World champion and no matter what you do in life after that no one can take that away from you.”
Man v Machine: Buglioni v Chudinov will be shown exclusively live on Boxnation from 6pm. Sky Channel 437.
