Christmas Crocker – Conlan Eyes Cacace – Crocker Festive Double Act

Jamie Conlan is hopes to announce a Christmas Crocker for Belfast this week.

Lewis Crocker is being lined up for a return home, as his manager plots the former world champion’s route back to the top.

The Belfast welterweight suffered the first defeat of his professional career when he travelled to Australia to face Liam Paro earlier this year, but a comeback plan is already in place.

‘Croc’ is back in the gym and preparing to begin the road towards becoming a two-time world champion, according to his manager, who believes Belfast in December would be the ideal first step back.

Conlan, a former Commonwealth champion and world title challenger, argues the winner of the only ever all-Irish world title fight could help make Anthony Cacace’s December 19 world title homecoming even bigger.

“We will know more before the end of the week,” Conlan said when speaking to Irish-boxing.com.

“He’ll hopefully be fighting in Belfast before Christmas. We’ll confirm it when it needs to be confirmed.

“He’s back in the gym, preparing, rectifying things that he knows he could have done better in Australia and now just the route back to being a two-time world champion.

“A massive Christmas Cracker would be Lewis and Anto Cacace on the same card. That would be a massive night for Belfast.”

The two Holy Trinity-associated boxers on the same bill certainly would appeal, but there could be a promotional stumbling block with Crocker being a Matchroom fighter and Queensberry promoting the show.

“It would be down to Queensberry and Matchroom to sort it out. Obviously we would like it for Lewis and we think Matchroom would benefit from having Lewis back out and back out in Belfast. Him and Cacace in one big night in Belfast is needed,” he adds, before all but suggesting a double act.

“They are two of the biggest names in Irish sport right now. With Katie gone, they are two that can do Stadiums. There is a lot of world-class talent on the Island right now, but these are the boys who put bums on seats, especially in Belfast.”

Cacace defends his WBA super featherweight world title against Nick Ball in Belfast on the card Conlan would like Crocker to populate.
