Bunce excited by Irish visit

14 September 2009 – By Cormac Campbell

Boxing motormouth Steve Bunce brings his live show to Ireland for three dates this autumn where he will grill the cream of Irish boxing infront of a live audience.

The former host of Setanta Sports Steve Bunce Boxing Hour will be in Dockers Club, Belfast (October 6), Castle Tavern, Riverstown, East Cork (October 27) and Red Cow Morans Hotel, Dublin (November 17). Tickets are now available from buncelive.com.

Speaking to irish-boxing.com, Bunce said that fight fans can expect elements of the TV show and a few surprises.

“I would be lying if I said this was going to be as slick as Riverdance but Ive some great twists built in so hopefully everyone finds it entertaining and funny,” he said.

Although the guest list for the three events have yet to be confirmed, Bunce has a good idea of who he would like to have on stage.

“Hopefully Ill get Rogan, John Breen and Eamonn Magee,” he said. “But Id also love to have Paul McCloskey, Bernard Dunne, the Hawkins brothers and any of the big names in Irish boxing.”

Before the collapse of Setanta Sports’ UK operation, Bunces weekly TV appearance had become compulsive viewing for fight fans. And Bunce would like to see another network take a chance on the format.

“You cant hope for all TV execs to be boxing fans but youd think thered be one,” he mused. “I find it staggering.”

“The Setanta Show came through the back door from a ten-minute segment to an hour long. We knew there were a lot of people watching because of the amount of emails we were getting. On one show we got 4,000 emails Talksport or 5 Live dont get that on an hour long show. So it became a beast then it died suddenly.

“I decided that if the other networks ignored me I would have to do something about it so I booked venues to take it on the road.”
