Conlan wants a tough test on July 4 New Beginning Card

JAMIE Conlan isn’t expecting an easy homecoming.

The Belfast fighter returns to the National Stadium in Dublin a venue he graced as an amateur and once as a pro on July 4 topping a BoxNation broadcast bill.

The World rated super flyweight is keen to kick on and secure a World title shot and believes his opponent will reflect his ambition on the New Beginning card.

‘The Belfast Mexican’ isn’t expecting a ‘gimme bout’ on his return to Dublin, indeed he is pushing for a tough test on the MGM and Frank Warren card.

Conlan hopes to announce a former World title challenger as an opponent over the coming weeks.

ā€œIt’s going to be tough and they are talking about a former World title challenger,” COnlan told Irish-boxing.com.

“He is a good fighter and he lost his World title fight in Japan to a split decision, so he must be good.Ā If it is that guy, that is the kind of fight I want at this stage of my career,” he added about been excited about returning home.

ā€œI am delighted. This will be my second fight at the National Stadium as a professional and I can’t wait. When you were fighting in the Irish championships as an amateur the National Stadium was the biggest thing ever.

ā€œThe fight is on television and I am headlining the show but a ring is a ring and a fight is a fight.

ā€œIt does not matter to me if there is one person there watching or thousands, and if there is TV, there is TV. It makes no difference to me.

ā€œBut to headline a show on television is brilliant for me, my team and my family for me to get this kind of exposure,ā€ he added.

July 4Ā will be Conlan’s first fight without long time trainer John Breen as he has moved to the MGM Gym in Marbella and he says things are going well.

ā€œI have only trained under the Irish national coach, my dad and John Breen, but with my new trainer Danny Vaughan, we just clicked straight away and things got off to a flying start.

ā€œFrom the very start he was telling me the things I wanted to hear and it’s brilliant.
