World title fight with Juan Diaz could await Ormond if he defeats Flanagan

FORMER undisputed lightweight champion of the World Juan ‘Dynamite’ Diaz has been named as the most likely opponent for the winner of Stephen Ormond and Terry Flanagan’s December 13.

Ormond and Flanagan duke out for WBO lightweight World title mandatory status in Sheffield on December 13. Victory leaves the winner next in line for a title currently held by the impressive Terrence Crawford, but it seems Crawford is moving up to 140lbs in a bid to get some fights with pound for pound names meaning Ormond, if he defeats Flanagan will challenge for the vacant title.

Currently above Ormond in the rankings is Paulis Moses and Diaz and Frank Warren, ‘The Rocks’ promoter believes Diaz and a WBO world title fight will be awaiting the winner of the mouthwatering Ormond v Flanagan dust up.

“Crawford won and he is going to vacate the title, so that fight will most likely be a final eliminator to fight Diaz for the vacant World title,” said Warren.

Diaz is certainly a massive name. The fighter who made his debut at 16 and unified the lightweight division before losing his titles to Nate Campbell by a 12 round split decision in 2008.

It was his first defeat after 33 consecutive professional victories. Diaz fought the fought Juan Manuel Marquez for the vacant WBO lightweight title and the vacant WBA super world lightweight title. Marquez won by a ninth-round TKO and the fight was named the 2009 fight of the year by both The Ring and the Boxing Writers Association of America.
