Wildcard Warrington believes he will raise his level again versus Frampton

Josh Warrington is ready to show the world that he is a world class fighter on December 22nd.

The English featherweight goes into a voluntary defence versus Carl Frampton as a world champion and on the back of an impressive upset win over Lee Selby.

‘The Leeds Warrior’ scored a surprisingly decisive win over Selby back in May and now faces ‘The Jackal’ in a BT Sport pay-per-view – a bout that was scoffed at when first suggested by common promoter Frank Warren last year.

However, the new IBF beltholder is aware he still has doubters of which, he believes, Frampton is one.

The two-weight world champion did believe, like most, that Selby was a heavy favourite to retain his belt before he took on mandatory challenger Warrington at Elland Roady.

The Belfast man made no secret of the fact he expected to be facing Selby in his attempt to add another world title belt to his collection.

Indeed, throughout the build-up, Frampton has spoke of how Warrington’s style is made for him and that he would have stopped the version of Selby that the Leeds boxer outpointed.

A 2/1 shot, the ticket seller is well aware he is underdog going into the December 22nd clash at the Manchester Arena but points out he is revelling in that ‘nothing to lose space’ and is looking forward to proving the doubters and Frampton wrong.

“Obviously it is in my head what I am capable of doing and I think being tested against these boys is when I show what I can do,” said Warrington.

“Up until then I was always just going about business and beat who was put in front of me. Now it is to show what I am really capable of.”

“In my head I have got nothing to lose because I am still written off. Once again the bookies have got him as favourite and I am the champion.”

“He is a massive favourite and that just gives me a greater desire and more fire in the belly,” he added before suggesting he might benefit from an element of surprise, despite the fact ‘The Jackal’ knew he the pair would meet since May.

“In his head he thought he would be fighting Selby in his next fight and he never thought he would be fighting me.”

“I think that kind of makes me a bit of a wildcard because nobody expected me to bring that performance – so what am I going to bring against Carl?”

“He will still have a few questions. He doesn’t know how good I am, no-one does.”
