Phil Sutcliffe Jr [13(8)-2(1)] fell to the second defeat of his career in Leeds tonight under controversial circumstances.
The Crumlin light welter was pulled out by the man in the middle in the sixth round of his IBF East/West European title fight with Englishman Josh Leather.
Following a back and forth opening few rounds, the Dubliner was stopped standing by referee Howard Foster at the First Direct Arena, live on BT Sport.
The decision drew wide criticism, and Sutcliffe himself noted afterwards that he felt the call was premature.
