Walsh gutted with hand injury but is confident he will be ok for the Euros
IRISH Senior Champion Dean Walsh told is ‘heart broken’ after he was denied the chance to build on his National success on the International stage last week, but is confident he will be back in time to fight in the European Games.
The light welterweight champion of Ireland and Boxer of the Tournament at this years National Elite Championships injured his hand in the semi finals of the aforementioned competition.
And whilst he fought through the pain barrier to defeat Ray Moylette and retain his crown, he had to pull out of a trip to Bulgaria last week and will miss the Bee Gee multi nations in Finland.
However, Olympic hopeful Walsh reveals he will be back well in time for the European Games and is looking forward to mounting a medal challenge in June.
“I am absolutely heart broken I had to pull out of the Stranja tournament in Bulgaria. I had a hand injury I picked up in the Senior semis’. I have had to pull out of the tournament in Finland too. I was looking forward to representing Ireland and fighting Internationally.
“It is a 12 week injury so I have just another five or six weeks out so I will be fine for the European Games and I am looking forward to competing in them.”
