UTV Ireland confirm they will air Frampton fight

Following on from the announcement earlier that Carl Frampton’s U.S. debut will be aired live in Britain and Northern Ireland through ITV, UTV Ireland have confirmed that they too will be carrying the fight for viewers in the Republic of Ireland.

Frampton faces Mexican prospect Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. in El Paso at the Don Haskins Centre as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.

The fight will also be shown live on terrestrial television in the U.S. through CBS. The IBF super bantamweight champion will be aiming to impress U.S. fans as he looks to make a name for himself and build a profile stateside.

Managing Director of UTV Ireland, Michael Wilson, today said – “We are very excited to be announcing today that UTV Ireland will once again be bringing this local sporting hero to local screens. Carl Frampton has become one of our most respected sporting exports so it’s a privilege to be in the position to bring his fight live to the Irish audience.”

“We are hoping to build on the ratings success we saw for Carls’ fight against Chris Avalos earlier this year which attracted a peak audience of 200,000 Irish viewers who tuned in to watch the Belfast native beat his opponent in the Odyssey the last time around and we hope Carl will see the same level of support as he faces Alejandro Gonzalez Jr on July 18th.”

UTV Ireland is available on Sky channel 116, Saorview channel 6, UPC channel 110 and eVision channel 108.
