US television ratings for Carl Frampton’s glorious WBA featherweight title win over Leo Santa Cruz in New York have been released.

The bout, broadcast by US cable network Showtime, was viewed by a peak audience of 549,000 according to Nielsen Media Research.

The average viewing figures for the clash at the Barclays Centre were 480,000.

Out of the 7 Premier Boxing Champions cards shown on the channel this year, Santa-Cruz Frampton rated 3rd in terms of average viewers, coming behind Deontay Wilder v Artur Szpilka (500,000) and Erislandy Lara v Vanes Martirosyan (491,000).

The figures are a massive jump on Santa Cruz’s last fight against Kiko Martinez in February which drew an average viewership of 267,000.

The numbers are substantially lower than Frampton’s previous fight in America against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, however that is to be expected considering that that fight was shown on US terrestrial television on CBS.

Boxnation viewing figures for the clash are currently unknown.
