UFC star Cathal Pendred will NOT be moving to professional boxing

Irish Mixed Martial Artist Cathal Pendred [17(6)(1)-3(1)(1)] will not be making an assault on the professional boxing scene as he had originally planned.

Pendred revealed to the42.ie that his plans to move from the octagon to the squared circle have been blocked by the UFC. The Straight Blast Gym fighter explained that “I wanted to do that [professional boxing], but the UFC have told me I’m not allowed.”

The disappointed Dubliner continued: “It’s a shame. I can kind of understand where they’re coming from, but at the same time it would better me as a fighter to go off and do that for a few months, and then come back.”

The charismatic 28 year old was reasoned in his analysis of the situation, musing that “If I’m better as a fighter then it’s better for the UFC, but I do understand why they don’t want me to do that. It’s in the contract as well apparently – and a contract is a contract. ”

However, after his October fight in Dublin, Pendred will still undergo boxing training, he just wont punch for pay, with the welterweight confirming that “I do still plan on taking a few months to work on things.”
