Tyrone McCullagh to face wild opponent this weekend

Tyrone McCullagh, possibly one of Ireland’s most unorthodox fighters will face an unorthodox opponent of a very different kind on Saturday night on ‘The Future’ card at the National Stadium.

The Derry southpaw, an awkward defensive amateur turned awkward attacking pro, will box against Latvia’s Aleksandrs Birkenbergs [3(3)-4(3)] on the FS Promotions/Hatton Promotions card.

Featherweight McCullagh has stormed to 3(3)-0 in his first year as a pro and will hope to make it four knockouts in a row against the wildly aggressive Baltic boxer.

‘White Chocolate,’ who is missing out on a trip to Euro 2016 for this fight, will be looking to take out any lingering frustrations on the Latvian at the scene of many of his own amateur triumphs.

Birkenbergs has Irish previous, retiring with a broken rib in the second round of his fight with Belfast youngster Mathew Fitzsimons last year.
