Taylor beats Swedish opposition in Bray

KATIE TAYLOR beat Sweden’s Agnes Alexiusson at the Ballywaltrim Community Centre in Bray tonight.

Taylor’s fellow London 2012 Olympian and Bray BC team-mate Adam Nolan also won, the current Irish Elite champion beating Fergal Redmond of the Arklow BC.

Taylor scored a unanimous decision over the talented Swede in her first competitive bout since winning her fifth successive World title in Korea last November.

The Olympic lightweight champion will now meet Alexiusson’s compatriot Pernilla Gustavsson on a Trojan BC hosted card at the Listowel Community Centre in Kerry tonight.

“It was a fine contest between Katie and the Swedish girl and a great atmosphere here tonight,” said MC Al Morris.

Taylor and Nolan have been named in a 12-strong Irish squad for next month’s inaugural European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“Katie performed very well against a good opponent. The Swedish girl is definitely one for the future. Tonight’s bouts are ideal preparation for the European Games,” said Nolan.
