Six Irish Fighters Look to take a Step Closer to Paris Today

Six Irish fighters will look to move to within touching distance of a Paris 2024 Olympic slot today.

Jennifer Lehane, Kellie Harrington, Kelyn Cassidy, Jack Marley, Amy Broadhurst and Sean Mari all trade leather for spots in the quarter-finals of their respective weights.

First up is 54kg DCU’s Lehane, who meets Greece in bout 2 of Ring B’s afternoon session. Lightweight Olympic champion Harrington contests her bout against Elida Kocharyan of Armenia in Ring A’s bout 3.

At 80kg Cassidy vies for a quarter-final place against Team GB’s Taylor Jay Bevan in Ring B’s bout 8, while 92kg Jack Marley makes his tournament debut in the final bout of the afternoon session in Ring A, against Greek heavyweight Vagkan Nanitzanian.

Broadhurst fights for the second time in the competition in the Evening Session. The World Championship gold medal winner meets Latvia’s Beatrise Rozentale from Latvia in the 66kg class. Two bouts later, Monkstown’s Mari opens his account, against Salvador Molina of Spain at 51kg.
