Sean McComb reveals freak accident that threatened to spoil big win

There was a brief moment last night when Sean McComb’s win over Siar Ozgul looked in doubt.

In the ninth and penultimate round, the Belfast southpaw was bundled to the ground by the tough Turk. Rising to his feet, McComb was in obvious discomfort and it appeared there was something in his eye.

After a brief pause, the fight was back on and Ozgul threw everything he had at the hindered Irishman.

Thankfully for McComb, he remained too slick and, following this brief scare, he rounded off a unanimous points decision.

This morning, ‘The Public Nuisance’ revealed just what got in his eye – Mark Lyson’s finger!

McComb explained on social media that the English referee had accidentally poked him in the eye when helping him up after his tumble with Ozgul.

McComb said “for anyone that’s asking about what happened to me eye – in the ninth round, when I was getting off the ground, the referee tried to help me up and stuck his finger in my eye by an accident.”

“So I hope that clarifies everything for you all. I had to box the whole tenth round like this [cross-eyed].”
